a good salesman will "sell the sizzle, not the steak". that's what these make me think - there is a lot of sizzle, but no meat. just hollow artifice, though admittedly a very pretty package. great photography should contain some kind of humanistic or emotive quality, and fashion need not be an exception. if hollow artifice has been used in fashion photography as a critique of fashion itself, it got old decades ago.
I like photographers that make this shoots like stories, like Eugenio Recuenco (though I like Recuenco's work much more than this photographers'). Still, there are some that I like a lot. The last one, even though it doesn't tell a story, has great shapes, everything looks long and it has rythm, I liked it.
why does everything need some intense meaning in order to be counted as worthy? sometimes a photograph is just a photograph. It is striking simply for the image.
skin deep can be effective. and here it is so.
Great photography is relative. meaning or not, I can accept an image based solely on itself.
